My go-to makeup look lately has been natural and minimal. I feel like there are a ton of makeup tutorials on YouTube and Instagram that show you all of these intense looks, but sometimes less is more! Natural makeup can be so beautiful and enhance your features in such a simple and easy way. I wanted to share my go-to steps and products for a “No Makeup” makeup look this summer.
Step 1: Prep & Prime
Prep your skin with a primer so that whatever you put on top will last and look its best for as long as possible. I use the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer and focus it in areas where I need it most.
Step 2: Base
Instead of using a full coverage foundation, use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. It won’t completely cover everything, but it will even your skintone while still letting your skin peek through. If you don’t want to go out and buy one, you can mix your regular foundation with your moisturizer to lighten it up. I use the NYX BB cream and apply an extra layer wherever I need it.
Step 3: Creams
In my opinion, cream/liquid products look the most natural and blend into the skin better than powders. Instead of using a powder blush and highlighter, use a cream or liquid product and blend it into your skin with your fingers. The blush will give you a natural flush and the highlighter will of course give you a healthy glow. I apply highlighter on the tops of my cheeks, brow bones, cupid’s bow, and sometimes even on my eyelids. You can even mix a little in with your foundation. If you don’t want to go out and buy a cream blush, use a lipstick. I use NYX cream blushes and High Beam by Benefit.
Step 4: Brows & Lashes
Define your eyes in 30 seconds with a clear mascara and brow gel. Brows can make such a big difference and you don’t need to use 5 products to give them some definition. Use a tinted brow gel to keep your brows and place while still tinting them and filling in any lighter gaps. On your lashes, use a clear mascara to open your eyes without it being too harsh. You can buy a clear mascara at the drugstore, and mix a little brown eye shadow to make a brow gel. I use Maybelline’s clear mascara and Benefit’s Gimme Brow.
Step 5: Lips
A tinted lip balm is the perfect way to finish off a minimal makeup look. Hydrate and add a slight pop of color on your lips with a tinted lip balm. You can buy one at the drugstore or Sephora, or you can make one with vaseline and a blush. I switch up my lip balm all the time but I’m a big fan of Smith’s Rosebud Salve.
Although wearing a lot of makeup can be fun, sometimes minimal makeup can be refreshing, especially for summer!
